Guest Artists 2017

Lucas Jervies will present his second work for MBC, to premiere next March. Lucas has produced works for many companies around the world (including Sydney Dance Company, Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, Queensland Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Louisville Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Expressions Dance Company, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Sydney Chamber Opera, JACK Productions, Griffin Theatre Company, Hèrmes, Buzz Dance Theatre, Sydney Dance Company Pre Professional Year, Korzo Theatre Den Haag, Noverre Society Stuttgart Ballet, CoDarts Rotterdam University for the Arts and The Australian Ballet School). Lucas will present new work for the Being and Time season to premiere at the Hawthorn Arts Centre in March 2017.

Tim Podesta a graduate of the Australian Ballet School, danced with numerous companies internationally before founding his company: Tim Podesta + PROJECTion Dance in 2006. Tim’s productions have involved a range of leading dancers and companies, including The Queensland Ballet, The Melbourne Ballet Company, The Hong Kong Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Singapore Dance Theatre, English National Ballet and the The Royal Ballet, for performances, festivals, film and television. Tim will choreograph a new work for MBC’s Being and Time season set to premiere at theHawthorn Arts Centre in March 2017.

Alice Topp was born in Bendigo and started dancing at the age of four. She began her dance studies at a local school before attending the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School for a year in 1998; she then undertook four years of full-time classical training at Ballet Theatre of Victoria. After two years with Royal New Zealand Ballet, Alice joined The Australian Ballet in 2007 and has danced in a wide range of classical and contemporary repertoire. Alice has a passion for choreography and has created four critically acclaimed works for the company’s Bodytorque seasons. In 2014 she choreographed an intimate pas de deux, performed by Rudy Hawkes and Vivienne Wong, for Megan Washington’s Begin Again music video.

Rani Luther has had a distinguished career as dancer in Europe and Australia (including Kiel Ballet, Germany, Netherlands Dance Theatre 2 and The Netherlands Dance Theatre, the Australian Ballet and Sydney Dance Company). Rani was a member of the Melbourne Ballet Company 2008 - 2010, where many works were choreographed specifically for her by Resident Choreographer, Simon Hoy. Rani has worked jointly with Hoy on several productions and has also created several ballets of her own. 2017 will see her second choreographic work for MBC for A subjective Perspective season.

Daniel Jaber trained at the Queensland University of Technology, Queensland Ballet Professional Year Program and Adelaide College of the Arts before joining Garry Stewart’s Australian Dance theatre at the age of 17 in 2003. He worked with ADT for five years full-time and a further 5-years as a guest while freelancing throughout Europe and Asia. As a choreographer, Jaber has created works for LWDance Hub, Australian Dance Theatre, Expressions Dance Company, Houston Ballet 2, and Architanz Tokyo. Other choreographic credits include; Dance Moms, Qantas, Australian Tourism Awards, Transit Dance, Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi and Samstag Museum of Art. In 2014 Jaber was appointed Resident Choreographer of LWDance Hub and in 2015, was the company’s Creative Director. He is currently a freelance choreographer and dane instructor based between Los Angeles, California and Melbourne, Australia.
